How Sociology Will Impact My Future

Work

Teaching:
  • Helping me to better understand the differences my students come to school with

  • Providing me with the resources to be able to make the most informed decisions regarding how to help struggle students with multiple disadvantages succeed and reach their potential

  • Push me to keep creating inquiry based, student centered lessons when the requirements and bureaucracy of teaching is out of control. At the end of the day it is my responsibility to mold and shape the students in my classroom from 8am to 3pm every day, and it is my responsibility that they receive the best education

  • Make me believe in the enormous capabilities of my students, even when other might be pushing me to treat them like babies

Education Policy Reform:
  • Understand how the education policy decisions that are made not only affect the current student I am teaching yet also affect their parents and their future children

  • Education can be the outlet to closing the social class gaps, through ensuring equal opportunities and resources to all school age children, or it can work to continue to perpetuate the social and class gaps of our society

  • Analyze research reports to discover the missing holes in reliability, validity, research methods, sample size, and other methodological and statistical factors

  • Conduct consulting projects, qualitative and quantitative research, and statistical analysis
